Making room for daylight.

Before adding light fittings, spend a day noticing what the room already does.

01

Follow the light

Map where daylight lands at several times of day. A desk, reading seat and dining table do not need the same conditions. An arrangement that is convenient in plan can be uncomfortable when a low sun crosses the work surface.

02

Leave the useful edge open

Tall storage immediately beside a window can take away more than its footprint suggests. Place low furniture near the light and use deeper edges for storage, always testing the actual sightlines.

03

Add light for an activity

A task light belongs to a task. A reading seat needs reachable controls and a useful angle; a service counter needs a clear working surface. The concept should describe that use before picking a fixture.
